About the Program

A car seat safety check program is designed to ensure proper installation and use of child car seats. Our certified technicians will educate caregivers about the correct installation techniques, appropriate seat selection, and the importance of securing the seat with the vehicle's safety restraints. This program plays a crucial role in minimizing the risk of injury to children during vehicular accidents and promoting responsible car seat practices among parents and guardians.

What You Can Expect

Trained technicians will inspect the child's car seat for proper installation and secure attachment to the vehicle. They will  educate you on the appropriate use of the car seat based on the child's age and size, addressing any questions to ensure maximum child passenger safety.

 

Considerations

The following questions are considered by our technicians before using a car seat.

• What is the history of the car seat?

• Has the seat been involved in a motor vehicle accident?

• Was the car seat purchased at a garage sale or auction?

• Does the car seat appear to be in good working order?

• Are the labels present?

• Is the car seat expired?

• Has the car seat been recalled?

Expiration Dates

Expiration dates vary between manufacturers and possibly between specific models of car seats made by the same manufacturer.  Expiration dates can be found in various locations on the car or booster seat.  If no expiration date is found, the National standard is 6 years from the date of manufacture.

 

Height/Weight Requirements

The best car seat is the one that fits the child, fits the vehicle, and that the caregiver can use correctly. Here are the recommendations from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
