Message From the Chief

Police Chief Dennis Butler

Dear Fellow Citizens:

I am proud to welcome you to the Ottawa Police Department's website and offer you the chance to learn more about both the officers who serve this City and the opportunity to discover what you can do to prevent crime in your home, neighborhood or workplace.

The Ottawa Police Department is fortunate to occupy a state-of-the-art Law Enforcement Center located at 715 W. 2nd Street. The construction of this facility in 2003 eliminated years of chronic overcrowding in a shared police/fire facility resulting in excellent working conditions, employee morale, and agency effectiveness.

It is our partnership with the people of Ottawa that makes our policing efforts successful. Our community policing philosophy extends though liaison with the Chamber of Commerce, a well developed the D.A.R.E. Program and summer camp, to officers who well-trained who understanding the importance of delivering exceptional customer service.

I am confident that you will find this website to be consistent with the Ottawa Police Department's approach of openness, friendliness, and practice of mid-western values. I hope you will expand your knowledge about the Ottawa Police Department and discover new ways that we can work together.
